The god of the Sun – Ra was often referred to as Atum-Ra and was considered to be the first god.
The sun-god Ra was usually shown as man with a falcon’s head. Above this rested a great golden sun disk.
In another version of the story, Ra made his daily journey from east to west in a special sun boat, called a solar bark, whish was propelled by lesser gods.
The people prayed in the evening that the sun would travel safely through the dark hours.
When the sun rose at dawn they praised and glorified Ra with a special hymn.
